Alan Rough has claimed that Steven Gerrard is going to get a massive “shock” when Rangers win the Scottish Premiership this season.
After Celtic lost once again at Ross County over the weekend, the Bears only need seven more points to seal title number 55 in their history.
That means that we could win that title in the Old Firm game at Parkhead next month, something that could persuade Gerrard to stay at Ibrox for longer.
Speaking on PLZ Soccers’ The Football Show on Tuesday, Rough claimed that Gerrard will be surprised by the celebrations, and could persuade him to stick around for years to come.
“I think he’s going to get a shock once they’ve won it,” he said.
“What it means to a lot of people. I know he’s been steeped in Liverpool and everything that goes there, but I think he’s going to get a reaction that he’s never had for a long time when he sees how much it means to Rangers and the fans.
“I think that will be the inspiration for him. I’m sure that may be the sway for him, but I think the longer he stays at Rangers and the more success at Rangers, it’s more of a given that he doesn’t have to go anywhere.”
Jurgen Klopp is still at the helm at Anfield, and he will be for a number of years before Liverpool need to approach another manager.
Gerrard has been phenomenal at Ibrox, and he won’t want to win one title and then jump ship, he will want to make a legacy to remember in Glasgow.
After years of torment at the hands of Celtic, the Bears are getting their own back and making them crumble under the first bit of pressure they have felt in nine years.
It is Rangers’ time to take control of Scotland, and hopefully, that will be with Gerrard at the helm for years to come.
