Derek Ferguson has insisted that Allan McGregor has “got to” sign a new contract with Rangers past this season.
The current deal of the veteran keeper runs out at the end of this season, and Steven Gerrard has already shared his desire to extend it.
McGregor has been in top form recently, and Ferguson has claimed that the Gers need his drive and determination in the dressing room at Ibrox.
Speaking on the Blues Brothers Podcast, Ferguson claimed McGregor is still desperately needed by the Bears past this season.
“He’s got to,” he said.
“He’s only 39, he’s just a pup. Goalkeepers get better with age and looking at Allan McGregor, I think atleast another two years.
“His drive and determination, that attitude after the Accies game; we need that.”
You could ask every single Rangers fan if they wanted McGregor to stay past this season, and the answer would be exactly the same from each one.
The 39-year-old simply has to stay at Ibrox, with his recent performances only getting better and better, but also his attitude.
That speech after the Hamilton draw was something that every single player in the squad needed to hear, and that was highlighted in the win over Kilmarnock.
McGregor knows what it takes to be successful at Ibrox, and he will be the driving force in the dressing room this season, and who knows? He can do the same past this campaign.
