Rangers edged past Kilmarnock 1-0 at Ibrox on Saturday to move a step closer to winning the Scottish Premiership title.

The Gers went 21 points clear of Celtic thanks to a stunning Ryan Jack finish after 37 minutes played. It was enough to give Steven Gerrard’s men a 14th consecutive home win in the league.

Gerrard has transformed the squad into a group of champions. Since coming in, the Englishman has led Rangers to 93 wins and just 18 defeats. For the last nine seasons, Celtic have dominated without any genuine challengers.

With this extraordinary side, times are finally changing.

One man who stood out, in particular, was Steven Davis. The Northern Irishman turned 36 in January but performed with the energy of a man half his age. He’s ageing like a fine wine.

The midfielder has now played 26 times in the Scottish top-flight this season, with an astonishing 1,954 minutes overall. He’s also played in seven Europa League games where we’ve remained undefeated.

He rolled back the years against 10th placed Killie. Davis made eleven recoveries and four interceptions over the 90 minutes. He completed 83% of passes successfully and 100% of his attempted dribbles [WyScout]. Not bad for a player in his mid-thirties.

Rangers fans were very pleased by the performance of Davis yesterday. Ibrox News has picked out the best of the reaction on Twitter for you to have a look through.

In other Rangers news, manager Steven Gerrard was blown away by Davis’ performance against Kilmarnock.
