Chris Sutton has made a frank admission about Rangers and took a swipe at Celtic in his latest column for the Daily Record.
The former Bhoy is not usually so honest in his appraisal of Rangers, but he pointed to two factors in the club’s rise.
Dave King and Steven Gerrard have been key figures for the Gers in recent years, transforming them from nearly-rans to being within touching distance of the title.
Writing for the Daily Record, Sutton said, “Let me get one thing absolutely straight here. Rangers are going to be deserving champions.
“King and everyone with a connection to the Ibrox club has every right to savour what is happening this season.
“His team have got it absolutely spot on while the wheels have blown off the Celtic bus.
“Gerrard has been given the backing to make it happen. King set the ball rolling and the other investors have answered to his every call.
“While Celtic chopped and changed and floundered, there’s been an identity within Gerrard’s side.”
How far can we go under Gerrard?
First things first, we need to get across the line and wrap up the title this season.
Beyond that there are no limitations to what we can achieve, as Gerrard is really building something at Ibrox.
We have constantly improved since Stevie G came in and he is a manager who has worked on our weaknesses to make us more consistent.
Our defensive record is evidence of that, as is the fact we are no longer as reliant on Alfredo Morelos for goals.
There are also several young players in the squad which makes us excited for the future.
Stevie G added to that in January by agreeing deals with Scott Wright, Jack Simpson and Nnamdi Ofoborh, so it is a transfer strategy he may be keen on.
We already had Ianis Hagi and Joe Aribo who are both developing all the time, so we are well placed to mount another title bid next season.
Depending on our summer recruitment there is potential for us to expand our domestic dominance to the cup competitions.
Building up our strength in depth could also set us up for a run in Europe but we will likely need experienced signings to make that a reality.
In other Rangers news, Former Ibrox favourite signs for Killie and could make debut v Rangers on Saturday.
