‘When he said Rangers, I just smiled’ – Player buzzing with Gers agreement
Nnamdi Ofoborh has agreed a pre-contract deal to join Rangers and the midfielder revealed his delight at getting the deal done.
The midfielder is currently on loan at English Championship side Wycombe Wanderers and will move to Ibrox in the summer.
In an interview with MailSport, as quoted by the Daily Record, the 21-year-old explained how the move came about.
He also detailed his happiness at agreeing to a deal with Gers, saying, “I’m a midfielder so tried to base my game on guys like Gerrard, Lampard and Vieira when I was younger.
“So to be coached by him will be amazing. I’m going to try and learn as much as I can from him. I’ve even read both of his books before I go up to Glasgow.
“My agent spoke to me a while back and said he’d been talking to a few different clubs.
“He mentioned a few names, some of them abroad. But when he said Rangers, I just smiled at him.
“The thought of moving to Rangers was going through my mind every day at training.
“I’m buzzing. It’s still a bit surreal to me that I’m actually joining a club like that.”
Good sign
We are comfortably leading the Scottish Premiership and that meant we were not in urgent need of reinforcements in January.
Steven Gerrard did make some signings, with Ofoborh agreeing a deal along with Jack Simpson and Scott Wright.
The trio are all young players with a point to prove, and Ofoborh’s comments show effective our recruitment strategy has been.
It is clear to see he has a real passion and excitement about joining the club, and that hunger to succeed should translate into good performances on the pitch.
He is delighted to have the opportunity to work with Stevie G and players like Steven Davis and Ryan Jack should also have a positive influence on him.
Rangers are planning for the future and signing youngsters who want to learn is the best thing we can do currently.
We will have to wait and see how Ofoborh performs in Rangers blue, but for now there are several positive signs.
He should get a lot of game time between now and the end of the season, too, so hopefully he is raring to go by the time he arrives at Auchenhowie.
