Sky Sports commentator Ian Crocker and pundit Andy Walker were both impressed by Allan McGregor’s performance for Rangers on Sunday.
Steven Gerrard saw his men draw 1-1 away at Hamilton after a drab performance in a snowy South Lanarkshire.
While it was disappointing to see the Gers drop points against one of the Premiership’s worst teams, it could have been a lot of worse if it wasn’t for the performance of goalkeeper McGregor.
The 38-year-old made more saves against Hamilton than he has done in any league match this season and after denying Ross Callachan’s free-kick, Crocker and Walker were left waxing lyrical about the Gers number one.
Speaking on Sky Sports Main Event on Sunday [01:32pm], Walker said: “He keeps it out, just turns it around to safety. Yet another really good save from McGregor.”
Crocker chipped in by adding: “Man of the match for Rangers, Allan McGregor. Outstanding.”
McGregor not happy one bit
After seeing Callachan score against him with what was basically the final kick of the game in stoppage time, you could see the anger and disappointment on McGregor’s face.
He did his bit – which is way more than you can see about any other player who started versus the Accies on Sunday.
McGregor was outstanding and looked as though he’d be unbeatable from Hamilton’s viewpoint as he made save after save to keep them at bay.
Unfortunately, they found a hole in the Rangers brick wall and took full advantage of it in a brutal way.
McGregor deserved a clean sheet but those in front of him did not. They were woeful at times against Hamilton with the attackers creating next to nothing until Steven Davis and Ryan Jack came on and the defence constantly leaking chances to the home side.
It was such a shame to see the disappointment in McGregor’s face because he was so clearly let down by his team-mates on Sunday.
That cannot happen again otherwise any hope of going the league season unbeaten will be dashed soon enough.
