‘100%’ – Exclusive: Alex McLeish demands ‘brutal’ Rangers performance in Hamilton clash

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has claimed that Rangers must show a “brutal” mentality in the Scottish Premiership clash against Hamilton this afternoon.

The Bears travel to the Fountain of Youth Stadium looking to maintain their huge gap to Celtic in second place as they charge to 55.

McLeish believes Steven Gerrard can’t allow his side to take their foot off the accelerator, and claims they must show their “superiority” on the field.

Rangers

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “It’s carry on, regardless, keeping the foot on the accelerator.

“It’s not a question of going into the game and thinking ‘well, these are down this week’ – the mentality of the players must be absolutely brutal in terms of the opposition.

“We’ve got to show our superiority and we have to play to our top levels. It’s about every week getting your best level in every single game.

“The one thing that has got to be a given is that every player gives 100% and comes off the pitch saying they couldn’t have done any more.”

Rangers

It would be easy for everyone in the Rangers camp to remember the reverse fixture in which Hamilton were destroyed 8-0 at Ibrox.

The Bears would be stupid to do so, and could go into the game with complete wrong mindset if they did – Gerrard must have them prepared.

After struggling against St Johnstone on Wednesday, Rangers need to show a response and unfortunately for Hamilton, they could be coming up against a very determined Gers.

A win is a win, but Gerrard will want his side to be back at their best with the Europa League around the corner, and McLeish is spot on with his verdict.
