‘Victimised’ – Exclusive: Alex McLeish backs Rangers to fight SFA charge handed to Kemar Roofe

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has backed Steven Gerrard and Rangers to fight their corner after the SFA charged Kemar Roofe over his challenge against St Johnstone.

The striker has until Monday to respond to the charge after he was booked for an accidental challenge on Murray Davidson.

McLeish believes that the Bears will feel victimised by the SFA and that the so-called singling out is starting to become an issue.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “It’s one of these things, that again, there’s been some recent episodes of late challenges and stamps.

“You certainly think that at some stage you can get victimised, that you’ve been singled out and that’s an issue.

“You have to fight your corner and there’s no doubt that’s what Steven Gerrard is doing.”

This is becoming a joke now.

Roofe’s challenge was dealt with on the pitch, and it didn’t need to go any further, even the St Johnstone coaching staff admitted it was made to look worst in slow motion.

The striker was clearly trying to shield the ball from Davidson, and unfortunately mistimed it, but there definitely wasn’t any malice or intent in his decision.

Gerrard and the Bears need to forget the Morelos case and fight this one.

Roofe being handed a two-game ban would be morally wrong, and the SFA need to be challenged or they may continue to do as they please this season and beyond.
