‘Miles off it’ – Former Gers player brands ex-manager as ‘worst I’ve ever come across’
Former Gers defender Rob Kiernan has dug up old history and lambasted ex-Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha’s short tenure at the club in 2017.
Kiernan was a key figure in Rangers’ rise back to the big-time, starring in 33 Championship appearances before asserting himself in the starting XI on their return to the Premiership.
However after the dismissal of Mark Warbuton and the appointment of Caixinha, Kiernan was discarded and he lifted the lid on what life was like under the Portuguese manager.
Speaking on the ‘Football Daft’ podcast Kiernan said on Caixinha: “Miles off it, absolutely miles off it. Absolutely the worst I’ve ever come across. The worst.”
He added: “I remember he put up a presentation up of where he was (UAE) and he’s left this and that you guys should be so lucky I’ve made this decision.
“He put up a powerpoint presentation of his home, his family and his hotel rooms, what he looked over, I’ve left this to come to work with you lot, you guys should be praising me.
“I was like ‘Jesus Christ’.”
The dark days are over
How times have changed at Ibrox.
Caixinha’s Rangers reign was rather brief as he became the shortest-serving manager in the history of the club after only 229 days in charge, but he left scars that took a while to heal.
Graeme Murty took over as boss until the end of the season after Caixinha was sacked in October 2017 but the Light Blues continued to flounder under his guidance.
Steven Gerrard took over a rebuilding project in June 2018 and had to adopt patience in his quest to take Rangers back to the top but what an impact he is making now.
The Gers currently sit 23 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table and are eyeing a season of invincibility after going 27 games unbeaten so far.
Let us never speak of his Portuguese predecessor again.
