‘It tells me…’ – Alan Hutton makes intriguing claim about senior Rangers man
Alan Hutton believes Steven Gerrard will want to continue his Rangers project for a little while longer.
Gerrard is in his third year at Ibrox and is finally starting to see his work produce results, as the SPFL title is within touching distance.
Unsurprisingly, his future is the subject of much debate, and Hutton has weighed in with his opinion on the matter.
On Football Pass, he said (3:30), “It’s the million-dollar question. He’s building something and he’s been great for the last few seasons.
“Now we’re seeing what he wanted to build.
“He’s not only happy with this team, though – he’s still looking to sign players and build for the future, which I like. It tells me that he wants to stay for the next few seasons.
“I think he will want to stay, for the next couple of years anyway. It’s only going to be natural that he’ll want to go down south and try one of the bigger clubs.”
Building for the future
Rangers have looked strong on and off the pitch this season.
The squad has arguably never looked better under Gerrard so in January he decided to plan for the future.
“A big part of my role is trying to protect the future of the club, trying to improve the group in whatever area we feel needs improved,” said Gerrard.
That indicates he is thinking long-term at Ibrox, which is very positive news.
And the trio of signings we made in Scott Wright, Jack Simpson and Nnamdi Ofoborh are examples of that, as they all have age on their side so should develop well under Stevie G.
Given his success this year it would not be surprising he was looking for the next step in his career.
However, there has been no talk linking him with a move and he seems very happy in his role.
With Liverpool the big project for him, it’s as much about Klopp and his future as it is Gerrard and the German doesn’t look like he’s going anywhere quite yet.
That is encouraging, and hopefully the Gers boss is aiming to create a legacy with us.
The Scottish Premiership looks done and dusted but there is still the Europa League to tackle, and Gerrard will be aiming to progress further than the round of 16, which we made last season.
Looking to young players supports Hutton’s claim that Gerrard will be here for a few more seasons, and we cannot wait to see how that plays out.
