‘A hard watch’, ‘Absolutely nae idea’ – Many Rangers fans cringe over awkward club video
Some Rangers fans have reacted to a club video that shows new signing Jack Simpson ringing up Gers supporters with a happy birthday message.
Simpson arrived at Ibrox on deadline day after initially agreeing a pre-contract deal with the club meaning he would move north of the border from Bournemouth in the summer.
Following the loan departure of George Edmundson on the last day of the window, Simpson’s move was moved up and he is now a member of Steven Gerrard’s squad.
His duties began right away as he was tasked with sending a few Bears a happy birthday message.
This didn’t quite go to plan however as the first person to answer the phone didn’t seem to know who Simpson was.
In hindsight, this makes a fair amount of sense as if you weren’t watching the club’s deadline day moves then you may have missed the understated arrival of the defender.
The club really should have thought about this as Simpson isn’t an instantly recognisable member of the squad and surely if fans were after a birthday message from a player they would prefer Allan McGregor or James Tavernier.
Instead, they got Simpson and many Gers fans found great amusement in the video that the club shared on Twitter.
Others complained about how dull the eventual conversation was and theorised what they would say if they had the chance to speak to their favourite Rangers player.
In fairness, another fan did state that this is exactly what players should be doing during the pandemic and we’re sure that many other Gers supporters appreciate the gesture even if the execution was poor.
Here is how some Gers fans reacted to the footage.
