Steven Gerrard delivers Rangers injury blow v Hamilton, striker set to miss out
Steven Gerrard has confirmed his Rangers team news for the upcoming Scottish Premiership clash against Hamilton on Sunday.
The Bears have no fresh injury worries after the 1-0 win, but Jermain Defoe will remain out injured after missing that clash on Wednesday.
Alfredo Morelos will also miss the trip as the South American serves the second of his three-match ban for that incident against Hibernian.
Gerrard spoke to the media on Friday afternoon relayed on the official Rangers Twitter account as he delivered his team news.
“No fresh injury issues from Wednesday nights, Defoe won’t make the weekend but should be back for the lead into Kilmarnock,” he said.
Defoe will be back at the start of next week based on this update, with three men still fighting for one spot.
It was Kemar Roofe in the spotlight against St Johnstone.
Not only did the striker miss numerous chances to get his name on the scoresheet, but he was also in yet another incident which many believed was a sending off.
Roofe was only booked for his challenge on Murray Davidson, so remains available for Sunday’s game against Hamilton.
Cedric Itten came off the bench in that win and could earn himself a starting spot based on this latest update and the form of Roofe.
The Swiss forward scored off the bench against Motherwell recently and has been unlucky not to have been handed more opportunities in this incredible run.
Gerrard has plenty of options, and it makes for an intriguing wait until Sunday.
