‘Hammered’ – Sky pundit claims Rangers players treated unfairly by SFA, says it’s not ‘fair’

Sky Sports pundit Andy Walker thinks Rangers players are treated unfairly by the Scottish authorities.

He also thinks that Celtic players get the same treatment, despite Scott Brown escaping censure for an elbow on Aaron Tshibola in the recent game against Kilmarnock.

Alfredo Morelos got a three-game ban after being hit with retrospective action following an alleged stamp on Hibs star Ryan Porteous.

And Kemar Roofe is waiting to see if he is cited following a coming together with Murray Davidson, after getting a yellow in the game against St Johnstone.

Talking on the latest episode of the Sky Sports Scottish Football podcast, Walker said, “There does seem to be a clamour for Celtic and Rangers players to be hammered.

“Obviously, with Rangers and Celtic games there are more cameras there – I don’t think the same level of scrutiny is levelled at Motherwell, Dundee United, Hamilton and St Johnstone.

“I think what happens here is… I mean the ref saw the incident and he gave a yellow card to Kemar Roofe.

“But there is a process where if the referee is asked by the SFA if he was happy with what he saw, if he didn’t see it fully, they might be able to review it and upgrade from a yellow to a red.

“That has happened before but I will say it again, I am not a fan of re-refereeing games.  This clamour for everyone to be retrospectively dealt with, I’m not a fan of it at all.

“My point is, you’re looking at incidents of Gers and Celtic players and they seem to be held to a higher level of behaviour and I don’t think that’s fair.”

Rangers

Consistency

Consistency. This is what it comes down to time after time.

Rangers tweeted it out again last week and it’s all we’re asking for across all Scottish games.

It’s perfectly clear that Rangers are by far the best team in Scotland. That’s beyond debate.

What we want now is for our players and for players from other Scottish clubs to be held to the same standards, as they would in any other professional league in the world.

We’re unlikely to get VAR anytime soon because of the cost and that comes with its own troubles anyway, but it at least gives every player the same level of scrutiny and puts the refereeing decisions in front of a public microscope.

Clubs like Motherwell and Hamilton shouldn’t be treated differently just because there are no TV cameras there. That’s not how football should be run.

Celtic fans might criticise our call for “consistency” but that’s only because, once again, we’re leading the way in terms of sorting the game out on and off the pitch. And they’re salty about it.
