‘Everything’s still on the table’ – Rangers-linked 26y/o coy on move ahead of June free agency
John Lundstram is keeping his cards close to his chest as the reported Rangers target finally breaks his contract silence.
The Sheffield United midfielder has been linked with a move north of the border on numerous occasions with the Mirror reporting in October that the Light Blues were targeting a deal with the 26-year-old’s contract set to expire in June this year.
Talk has died down a little of late with more focus attached on trying to mount an unlikely Premier League survival bid for the Blades.
However Lundstram was pressed about his situation in a press conference before their clash with Chelsea on Sunday, and as reported by The Star he said: “It’s the same situation, everything’s still on the table. We’ll see what happens.
“Of course, [speculation] is bound to happen but I’m here and while I am here I’m committed, as you’ve seen in my performances.
“I’m 110 per cent and no-one can question that. Who knows what will happen but while I’m here, I’ll give everything.”
Cheap and cheerful
Whether Rangers firm up their interest before the end of the current campaign remains to be seen but their winter window business proved they always have their eye on a potential bargain.
Scott Wright, Jack Simpson and Nnamdi Ofoborh all agreed pre-contract deals with the Light Blues before the former two moved for nominal fees on deadline day.
Lundstram has failed to hit the heights of last season where he scored five Premier League goals and registered three assists as his side have struggled with second-season syndrome, currently sitting rock-bottom though they have won three of their last four league games.
He has failed to grab a goal in the current campaign with just two assists in 17 games to show for his efforts but he has also improved lately and if last season is anything to go by has the ability to take the Scottish Premiership by storm.
A tireless runner in midfield with an eye for goal, he would certainly be a valuable addition to Steven Gerrard’s side and judging by his recent comments is yet to sort his future out so is available to be poached on a free transfer.
