‘Magic’ – Gary McAllister lauds ‘Excellent’ Rangers duo in 1-0 win v St Johnstone

Gary McAllister has lauded Rangers duo Ianis Hagi and Joe Aribo for their performances in the 1-0 win against St Johnstone on Wednesday.

The midfielder duo both played crucial roles in the Bears picking up three points at Ibrox, with the Romanian scoring the all-important winner.

McAllister admitted that the Gers showed great control in the game, but struggled to find openings for the opening goal.

Speaking after the game to the official Rangers website, McAllister was blown away by the “magic” of Hagi to seal the victory.

“There were good parts of the game where I thought we showed control,” he said.

“I thought at times Joe Aribo was excellent but I thought it took a bit of magic from Ianis Hagi to make the difference but it was a big three points again.”

Teams coming to Ibrox are trying to make it as hard as possible by sticking in their defensive shape and taking little risks.

St Johnstone had their chances last night, and it would have been frustrating if they took them after the likes of Kemar Roofe wasted numerous opportunities.

Hagi stepped up at the perfect time, and his goal was phenomenal, taking on multiple defenders before smashing the ball home from the edge of the box.

Aribo was often the main playmaker though, and no one completed more dribbles than the former Charlton man on the entire pitch according to WhoScored.

Steven Gerrard will have been delighted with the impact of both, and we expect them to keep their spots for this weekends’ trip to Hamilton.
