‘Govanhill Prince’, ‘Outstanding’ – Many Rangers fans wowed by ‘massive’ player after 1-0 win

Rangers may have been frustrated in their attempts to break the deadlock v St Johnstone but they certainly did it in style thanks to one man.

It took 52 minutes but Ianis Hagi’s rocket was well worth the wait as his long-range effort was enough to secure all three points for the Gers and reassert their 23 point advantage over Old Firm rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

That is now 27 games unbeaten in the league but they were made to work for it at Ibrox on Wednesday evening.

For all their dominance on the ball in the first half the Light Blues failed to register a shot on target against their lowly counterparts but Hagi really took the bull by the horns at the start of the second period.

Receiving the ball on the right hand side Hagi jinked his way into the centre before unleashing a powerful drive from distance to beat Zander Clark in the St Johnstone goal.

It was Hagi’s first goal since his winner against Hibernian on December 26 and was just his fourth in the Premiership this season but he is really starting to step up when needed for Steven Gerrard’s side.

Per Whoscored he was the only Gers ace to register a shot on target (two) while he also chipped in on the defensive side making three interceptions (no one made more on the pitch) and two tackles.

Hagi failed to make it off the bench against Hibernian on Saturday but with Alfredo Morelos’ suspension meaning Kemar Roofe spearheaded the Rangers attack Hagi was afforded an opportunity to start and he certainly took it with both hands.

After scoring the vital winner against St Johnstone many Rangers fans were delighted with a player who will “only get better”.

At just 22-years-old Hagi certainly has time on his side and in a team flowing with such confidence will have a great chance to show his undoubted abilities.
