Exclusive: Pundit reacts to Rangers omission of ‘Key’ 25-year-old v St Johnstone

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has reacted to Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara being dropped for the 1-0 win against St Johnstone on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old was named on the bench at Ibrox, which was the first time he hasn’t started a game since the win over Aberdeen back in November.

McLeish praised Steven Gerrard and his recruitment, claiming his new-found squad depth is allowing him to rotate his squad this season.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “That should be the case for that squad.

“If they lose a key player then Steven Gerrard, his recruitment has been good in terms of building up over the last two or three years, and he’s finally got to a stage where one guy drops out, he’s got someone to come in.

“There’s really good resources with missing Kamara last night.”

Kamara has been one of the biggest success stories at Ibrox in recent years.

After arriving from Dundee for only £50,000, the Finland international has transformed his value closer to £10million and has become one of the best in his position in Scotland.

The 25-year-old has been linked with numerous moves to the Premier League in the past year, and there will no doubt be teams sniffing around in the summer again.

The Bears battled their way to three points last night, and it will have delighted Gerrard that he could do it while handing a vital rest to Kamara along the way.
