Exclusive: McLeish blown away by Rangers ace after ‘Massive’ moment v St Johnstone

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish was blown away by Rangers playmaker Ianis Hagi after he scored the winner in the 1-0 win over St Johnstone on Wednesday.

The Romanian came back into the side after being dropped against Hibernian and scored the all-important goal to continue the charge towards 55.

McLeish admitted that it was a “massive” moment in the game and that many will believe that Hagi should be starting more games at Ibrox.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “You see this kid and you think he should be playing more.

“That’s exactly the reaction that any manager would want and a bunch of supporters would want, a young man who has just come in. He’s finding his feet.

“He’s scored a lot of important goals, and that last night, that’s a massive goal because it maintains form.”

Hagi has made a habit of scoring important goals when starting games this season.

The 22-year-old is more known for his assists, setting up nine during this campaign, but he stepped up when the Bears were struggling against St Johnstone.

Sometimes against these stubborn sides, it takes a moment of magic from someone, and more often than not, Hagi is that player who steps up.

After missing the Hibs clash completely, the midfielder will have been desperate to make an impact last night, and that should all but confirm his starting spot against Hamilton.
