‘And so it begins’, ‘Thought it was a spoof account’ – Many Bears react to Tom English Gers post
Rangers moved another step closer to the Premiership with a tight 1-0 win over St Johnstone on Wednesday night but some people were keen to make the headlines about something else.
Tom English annoyed plenty of Gers fans when he tweeted about the Kemar Roofe tackle that saw him pick up a yellow.
The BBC journalist hinted that Rangers were always getting decisions when he said, “Kemar Roofe should be off. The most blatant red card since…Alfredo Morelos last week.”
This comes after Rangers and Steven Gerrard called for consistency after Scott Brown got away with an elbow on Kilmarnock’s Aaron Tshibola on Tuesday night.
Some Gers fans pointed out that English had completely ignored this incident involving the Celtic player.
And the fact that he’s dragging Morelos back into it just says it all to us.
We want consistency and we’ve been very vocal critics of the standards of refereeing in the Scottish game.
For the record, we think – as many Gers fans do – that Roofe was lucky not to get a red, although even the St Johnstone boss said there was “no malice.
Talking after the game, Callum Davidson said, “It’s one of those, I don’t think there was any malice in the challenge, but it doesn’t look great. TV pictures will slow it down and make it look worse than it is.”
Roofe picked up a yellow for the tackle and that really should be the end of it.
But, as Rangers fans, we know that might not be the case.
Here are the best reactions to Tom English’s needless Morelos comparison…
