Sky Sports pundit makes big Scott Wright claim ahead of Rangers v St Johnstone
Sky Sports pundit James McFadden expects to see Scott Wright make his Rangers debut on Wednesday night when St Johnstone visit Ibrox.
Wright, 23, joined the Gers on a permanent deal from Aberdeen on Monday after a pre-contract was initially agreed.
The former Scotland Under-21s attacker is available to play against St Johnstone in the Premiership this week and McFadden claims we could see him feature at some point.
“Scott Wright, I think Steven Gerrard had spoken about it and said he was going to have a look at him in training,” the former Motherwell and Everton player told Sky Sports.
“He’s obviously been playing regularly for Aberdeen so fitness won’t be an issue.
“I think we probably will see him at some point [against St Johnstone].”
Chance to rotate
Gerrard’s addition of Wright means that he has a better chance of being able to rotate his attack because in recent weeks, he’s relied on a similar bunch of players.
Wright can play out wide or as a number 10 so he can cover a few different positions at Ibrox and help Gerrard rest players like Ryan Kent, Joe Aribo and Ianis Hagi if they need a break.
While the Premiership title is pretty much wrapped up already, we’re still trying to do well in the Scottish Cup and the Europa League once they get back underway.
Starting Wright at weekends in the league and then using the likes of Aribo, Kent and Hagi in Europe could extend our stay in the competition.
Not many clubs in Europe will be able to play a strong team two times a week but Rangers will be able to play a strong team in the midweek and rest key players at weekends when the league is sorted.
Wright will gradually get bedded in at Ibrox that way with the view to him possibly playing a bigger role next season.
