Ibrox View: 50% pass accuracy, lost possession 14x – New Rangers signing has huge task ahead

New Rangers signing Nnamdi Ofoborh joined Wycombe on deadline day but he failed to impress in his first game against Birmingham.

The midfielder has signed a pre-contract deal at Ibrox and the next few months gives him a chance to get some much-needed game time under his belt.

He knows Wycombe well, too, having spent last season on loan at the Chairboys, but he did not make a happy return on Tuesday.

The match ended goalless but the 21-year-old was far from his best, recording a rating of just 6.0 per SofaScore.

A closer look at his performance explains why he struggled to make an impact.

Ofoborh simply was not good enough on the ball, achieving a pass accuracy of just 50%, and gave away possession 14 times in total.

He made zero key passes and did not complete a single long ball, so it is not surprising that his team failed to score.

The midfielder also made an error that led to Birmingham having a shot, and it is these types of mistakes that he must cut out if he is to make an impact at Ibrox.

At the moment that seems some way off, as our midfielders are performing at the top of their game.

Steven Davis is ever-present and barely puts a foot wrong, and though his contract expires in the summer we think he will still be here next season because of Steven Gerrard’s recent comments.

He has achieved a WhoScored average rating of 7.03 this term, so it is difficult to see Gerrard overlooking him in favour of the Wycombe youngster, who is on loan from Bournemouth.

The likes of Glen Kamara and Joe Aribo have been superb at times this season, with the former getting better with each passing game.

Against Hibernian last week Kamara impressed fans with his adventure on the ball, and if he maintains that type of performance he will be one of the first names on the team sheet.

Ofoborh faces a tough task to break into the side, therefore, particularly with Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield also challenging for places.

It is up to the youngster to make a good impression for Wycombe during the rest of the season.

If he fails to do that Stevie G could begin regretting the decision to sign him, and Ofoborh could find himself out on loan once more.
