‘Smart move’ – Alan Rough: Rangers could have looked ‘Foolish’ in SFA-Morelos response

Alan Rough has claimed that Rangers accepting the three-match ban for Alfredo Morelos on Monday was a “smart move.”

The SFA confirmed that the Colombian, as well as the club, have accepted the charge of violent conduct leading to yet another ban.

Morelos admitted to stamping on Hibernian defender Ryan Porteous in the 1-0 victory on Wednesday, although no action was taken at the time.

Speaking on PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show on Monday, Rough admitted that the Bears could have been made to look “foolish” if they challenged the charge.

“Not surprised at all,” he said.

“I think Rangers will have looked rather foolish if they defended that one. I think it was there for everybody to see that it was a stamp.

“I think it’s a good one that they’re not dragging it out, they’re not lingering on it. I think it’s a smart move not to challenge it, and just move on.”

Rough is spot on.

There was no need for Rangers to challenge this ban, as we all knew it was coming from the moment that it happened – the SFA never miss anything when it comes to the Bears.

With Kemar Roofe back fit and both Cedric Itten and Jermain Defoe available, Steven Gerrard will have no problem covering this loss, either.

Morelos will be missing against st Johnstone, Hamilton and Kilmarnock, and he will be praying that nothing goes wrong in those games during his absence with the invincibles on the line.
