Ibrox View: Ofoborh signing spells the end of 28y/o’s Rangers career

Rangers announced the pre-contract signing of Nnamdi Ofoborh on Tuesday morning and it spells bad news for a current player.

The 21-year-old Bournemouth midfielder will spend the rest of the season on loan at Championship strugglers Wycombe Wanders, the club spent time at last season.

He will join up with his new teammates in the summer but we think that one current Gers player won’t be there to welcome our new signing.

Bongani Zungu has thoroughly underwhelmed since he moved to Ibrox on loan in the summer.

The midfielder has only made 14 appearances with the 28-year-old only starting three of those games.

It is fair to say that on these outings he has not stepped up to the plate and shown Steven Gerrard that he is worth keeping around.

According to Wyscout, only 68.3% of Zungu’s total actions in a Rangers shirt have been successful which is very poor compared to Ryan Jack’s success rate of 80% this season.

Zungu hasn’t shown that he is good enough to play in this exceptional Rangers side and more to the point, Ofoborh has an action success rate of 74.7% this season.

The Bournemouth midfielder looks to be a better player than Zungu and his transfer makes a lot more sense for the Gers compared to instead signing the South African on a permanent deal.

Firstly, Ofoborh will arrive for nothing in the summer which immediately makes his transfer more attractive to the club.

He is also much younger than Zungu and has much more room to improve and develop at Ibrox.

We think that Ofoborh’s arrival ends any chance of the club signing Zungu on a permanent deal and at this point, this isn’t a bad thing.

The only thing Zungu has brought to Rangers is the army of South African fans who bombard the club’s Twitter account any time the midfielder is mentioned.

He will not be missed.

There was plenty of excitement when the South African arrived at Ibrox but he simply hasn’t lived up to the hype.

Ofoborh comes to Scotland with something to prove and he is bound to get chances with Rangers sure to have another hectic schedule next season.

We can’t wait to see how he’ll do next once he arrives.
