Rangers to clinch late deadline-day deal as another player set to sign pre-contract – report

A pre-contract deal to bring Nnamdi Ofoborh to Rangers in the summer is set to be announced on deadline day, according to the Daily Record.

The 21-year-old is currently on the books of Bournemouth but will head out on loan for the remainder of the season with Football Insider reporting that a host of EFL clubs including Sheffield Wednesday and Watford are interested in a temporary deal.

This would mark the second loan spell of his career after he helped Wycombe Wanderers win promotion to the Championship last season for the first time in their history.

The Daily Record report that Rangers will confirm the pre-contract signature of Ofoborh on Monday with his Bournemouth deal expiring in June but he is unlikely to join this month.

Instead he is set loaned out by the Cherries to an EFL side with the Nigerian midfielder doubtful to feature much for them this season.

He has not played for Bournemouth since December 4 and has only made three Championship appearances in the current campaign.

Gers continue smart policy

It looks to be another shrewd signing from Rangers as they continue to hunt for talent in the lower divisions in England.

They have already agreed a pre-contract with Ofoborh’s Bournemouth teammate Jack Simpson and have had success before with plucking young talent out of the EFL.

Joe Aribo signed on a free from Charlton ahead of the 2019/20 season and is another example of the Gers trying their luck on low-cost deals that could ultimately reap high rewards.

One concern will be the lack of action Ofoborh has seen this season so Gerrard will be hoping he can leave the south-coast and gain some valuable playing time elsewhere.

He impressed at Wycombe last season and scored in the League One play-offs so he has a decent stock down south and there will be clubs vying for his signature.

Ofoborh will find it difficult to break his way into the Rangers starting XI next season with the star-studded displays of the likes of Glen Kamara this season alongside regular favourites such as Steven Davis and Ryan Jack.

Nevertheless if Gerrard can weave his coaching magic we could find another gem on our hands and one that could bring in a tidy profit even if he does not reach the dizzy heights.
