Rangers to announce new signing within hours amid advanced talks over deal – reports
Rangers are likely to announce their agreement to sign Nnamdi Ofoborh from Bournemouth in the next 24 hours, according to the Daily Record.
Last week, The Times reported the Premiership leaders were in advanced talks to sign the 21-year-old on a pre-contract basis with his deal at Bournemouth due to expire at the end of the season.
Ofoborh seems unlikely to arrive at Ibrox on deadline day, however. The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell reports that Wycombe are likely to sign the Nigerian midfielder on loan from Bournemouth as he sees out the rest of his deal on England’s south coast.
Winners all around?
Ofoborh hasn’t had much game-time at Bournemouth this season.
The Nigeria Under-20s midfielder has played just five times in all competitions and has only played three times in the Championship as a last-minute substitute on each occasion.
Ofoborh played a key role in helping Wycombe win promotion to England’s Championship last season.
He spent the season on loan with them, appearing 25 times and scoring in the League One play-off semi-finals.
The midfielder, who can also play in the defence, is more likely to play at Championship strugglers Wycombe than he is at Bournemouth if he stays there or Ibrox if he moves to Rangers now so we think this deal makes sense for everyone involved.
Bournemouth are getting rid of a player they don’t seem to want. Wycombe are re-signing a player who clearly did well with them last term. Rangers are signing a new young player who Steven Gerrard seems to want and Ofoborh himself gets game-time and to join one of the most successful clubs in the world.
In other Rangers news, Brentford are set to sign this young Gers star.
