Rangers handed major blow in hunt to re-sign former midfielder – report
Chelsea will not allow Rangers linked Billy Gilmour to leave Stamford Bridge on deadline day, according to Matt Law of The Daily Telegraph.
The Mirror reported in their live transfer blog on Tuesday [07:58am] that Rangers and Napoli are keen on signing the former Ibrox ace on loan.
It was thought that new Blues boss Thomas Tuchel may allow the youngster to leave Stamford Bridge to get more game time but, according to Law, he will be staying put.
On Monday, he tweeted, “I’m told Billy Gilmour will NOT go out on loan today. Chelsea want him involved in the first-year squad.”
He followed this up with another tweet, explaining, “Also told Gilmour will get chances and game time from Thomas Tuchel, who has been impressed by him in training.”
This all but ends any chance of Rangers securing a loan move for their former player which will which be a disappointing blow to Gers fans.
Many Gers fans made it clear that they wanted Steven Gerrard to make a move for the former Ibrox youth player so many will be disappointed that any loan deal is now off the table.
Realistically, we don’t need another midfielder with so many quality central players already at the club.
Even with a heavy and congested fixture list we should be able to manage through our league and European campaign with the players we have.
Injuries could change that but this season we have been fairly lucky with few players picking up long-term knocks.
Touch wood.
While it would’ve been nice to bring Gilmour home, it isn’t likely that he would get the game time that Chelsea would want him to get while out on loan.
It sounds like he will be given a chance at Chelsea under the new boss and we hope to see him take that next step and become a regular first-team player for the London side.
In other Rangers news, one of our players is undergoing a medical with an EFL club.
