Rangers agree player-plus-£200k deal to seal deadline-busting transfer today – report
Rangers will sign Scott Wright today (Monday) after agreeing a player-plus-cash deal with Aberdeen, according to the Daily Record.
The newspaper reports the Gers will pay £200,000 for the 23-year-old midfielder while Ross McCrorie will have his permanent move to Pittodrie wrapped into the deal.
Wright had already agreed to join Rangers on a pre-contract at the end of the season but it is now understood the ex-Scotland Under-21 international will arrive in a deadline-busting move from Aberdeen today.
Finally
After weeks of waiting, Rangers are finally getting their man ahead of schedule and rescuing Wright from Pittodrie.
Using McCrorie as a makeweight was a good decision because now both Rangers and Aberdeen have the players they want right now rather than waiting until the summer.
McCrorie joined the Dons on a loan-to-buy deal in the summer with the North-East club set to pay £350,000 for him.
However, they’ve now paid the difference so he can be a permanent fixture in Derek McInnes squad and Wright can be in Steven Gerrard’s team at Ibrox.
For £200,000 and a player who was leaving anyway, it seems like a sound bit of business by Rangers to get the deal done and dusted now.
It means Wright’s development is now in the hands of the club who will employ him for the foreseeable future rather than staying at Aberdeen, where fans have already been aiming vile abuse towards the direction of the attacking midfielder.
In other Rangers news, Brentford are set to sign this young Gers star.
