Rangers 24-year-old set for deadline day exit, move helps Scott Wright deal – report
Rangers winger Brandon Barker is set to join League One side Oxford United on deadline day, according to Jordan Campbell.
The Athletic journalist has reported on his Twitter account that the 24-year-old leaving Ibrox has freed space to turn Scott Wright’s move permanent on Monday.
Campbell claimed the deal with Aberdeen is loosely agreed, although nothing is set to be confirmed as of yet in Glasgow.
Steven Gerrard has been smart with this deal, with his eyes set on the bigger picture and Wright taking Barker’s spot in the squad.
The 24-year-old has started four games in the Scottish Premiership this season, and has come off the bench a further six times for the Bears.
Barker’s last start came in the 2-0 Old Firm victory at Parkhead against Celtic back in November, and since then he has only featured three times.
Those appearances have only added up to 35 minutes of action, and that is a waste of a squad spot when Wright could arrive and make a difference.
Wright has been playing for Aberdeen despite his pre-contract move being completed, and finally, a deal has been struck to change that.
The Daily Record claimed that the Bears will pay £200,000 and allow Ross McCrorie’s loan deal to turn permanent early as well in order to complete this one.
With Alfredo Morelos currently banned for three games, allowing a winger to leave to help bring in a central player seems like very smart business at Ibrox, we can’t wait to see that confirmed.
