‘Future Rangers captain’, ‘Last chance’ – These Bears react to Sky Sports transfer update

Ryan Edmundson is set to depart Rangers on loan to join Derby and many fans are happy with the development.

The news was reported by Sky Sports on Sunday evening.

The defender has had some big moments in a Gers shirt, including scoring a goal against Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League last 16 in 2019/20.

However, he has been frozen out this season and has not featured since he breached Covid-19 protocols in November.

Jordan Jones experienced the same punishment from Steven Gerrard, and he joined Sunderland on loan last week.

A move for Edmundson was always likely, therefore, as he has played just one game this term.

The likes of Conor Goldson, Filip Helander and Leon Balogun have been in fine form, which made it difficult for Edmundson to force his way into the starting line-up.

A return of just seven goals conceded in 26 games shows how impressive that trio have been.

Rangers

Edmundson has a chance to impress Gerrard with this temporary switch, and if he performs well under Wayne Rooney at Derby he may have an increased role at Ibrox next season.

Some supporters oppose that and hope this loan signifies that he is no longer wanted at Rangers. However, others think he’s still got a big future at Ibrox with one saying he’s our future captain.

At 23 the centre-back has time to improve and mature on and off the pitch, and it will be interesting to see if Stevie G gives him another chance.

Here is how some fans have been reacting to the proposed loan move.
