‘Fabulous’ – Exclusive: Alex McLeish reacts to major Rangers announcement
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has reacted to the “fabulous” news that Rangers defender Nathan Patterson has signed a new contract at Ibrox.
The young right-back has put pen-to-paper on a long-term deal that will see him remain in Glasgow until 2024 – something McLeish believes highlights the Bears future intentions.
Patterson continues to play understudy to James Tavernier and has been given recent cameos from Steven Gerrard in the first-team.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “Fabulous, it’s great for the kid.
“We’ve seen glimpses of him this season and the fact that Rangers have made him a bonafide part of the squad, a new contract, it says a lot.
“It says everything about Rangers’ intentions for the future.”
Patterson certainly has a bright future ahead of him.
The 19-year-old already has Europa League experience against the likes of Bayer Leverkusen under his belt and will want to increase that between now and the end of the season.
Speaking after the announcement, Steven Gerrard admitted that there were already plans in place for his development and that should only excite fans.
Obviously, chances will be limited this and next season, but beyond that, the youngster will be hoping to cement that spot in the side.
Patterson is learning from the best, and hopefully, we can look forward to years of Tavernier-esque performances at Ibrox.
