‘Wow’ – Many Rangers fans shocked by ‘Disgusting’, ‘Pathetic’ Daily Record story

A section of Rangers fans are disgusted by a story on the Daily Record website which seems to suggest Irvine Welsh’s comments about Alfredo Morelos are acceptable.

Morelos, 24, should have been sent off against Hibernian earlier this week for a stamp on Ryan Porteous.

The Colombia international’s actions are not what we want to see on the pitch and he should be banned by the SFA – but there’s no excuse for the horrible words Hibs-mad author Welsh said about the Ibrox ace.

As quoted by EdinburghLive, Welsh called Morelos a “sticky bun” on Hibs TV before going on to say:”Morelos should basically be macheted into small pieces and sent in various packages to different corners of the globe for a challenge like that and consumed by seagulls.”

Not only did Welsh use rhyming slang for a very offensive term that has no place in football nor any other walk of life, but to talk about murder – even if it was in a joking way – is abhorrent.

Enter the Daily Record’s Michael Gannon, who thinks it’s acceptable.

He doesn’t believe that anyone is actually offended by hearing a player should be chopped up by a machete.

He believes that those offended need to “get a grip“.

As long as views like this then the attitude among sections of Scottish football fans will never improve.

Rangers fans are absolutely appalled by the Daily Record article and here is a selection of their tweets:

In other Rangers news, Sir Kenny Dalglish has made a damning claim about the SFA amid this Ibrox controversy.
