‘Wish he had captaincy’ – Many Rangers fans rave about player after official tweet

Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor celebrated his 39th birthday on Sunday, and many supporters have taken the opportunity to shower him with praise.

The shot-stopper is edging towards the end of his career but has proven to be as valuable as ever this season.

A return of 12 clean sheets in 17 league games has been critical to Gers’ success, so we would also like to show our appreciation.

His performance against Celtic earlier this month highlights just how good he is.

First McGregor pulled off a brilliant double save to deny Odsonne Edouard before defying his age with a brilliant leap to tip Leigh Griffiths’ long-range effort onto the post.

We played poorly in that game and McGregor prevented us being 2-0 at half-time, in what was a crucial match.

His importance cannot be exaggerated, therefore, and it is not surprising that so many Bears are fawning over him.

Steven Gerrard has also remarked on McGregor’s significance, indicating that he was keen for the former Scotland international to sign a new deal.

We hope that happens as the keeper holds a key role on and off the pitch.

It would be nice to see him add to his trophy collection too, starting with his fourth title win this season.

Here is some of the reaction from fans praising McGregor on his birthday.
