‘If you have half a brain…’ – Ex-Gers player dismisses claim about Rangers ace

Rangers are lucky to have Steven Davis according to one of his former teammates and ex-Gers player Andrew Little.

The 36-year-old has been ever-present for Steven Gerrard in this campaign, featuring in 23 league games.

Little expressed his fondness Davis, and dismissed suggestions that he is underrated.

Speaking to The Athletic, Little commented, “He (Davis) might not set the world alight the first time you train with him but you gradually realise that this man just never plays badly.

“Walter Smith saw him as Mr. Reliable as he bought a calmness to the team.

“He never loses the ball or gets caught in possession, he rarely loses a 50/50.

“I actually disagree with people who say he is under-rated now — if you have half a brain, he is rated extremely highly by every single manager and team-mate.

“As Rangers fans, we’re extremely lucky to have him.”

Rangers

A big influence

Little played alongside Davis as part of the Rangers team that won the Scottish Premiership in 2009/10.

He has experienced first hand just how influential the midfielder is on the pitch and in the dressing room.

And despite heading towards the twilight of his career Davis continues to prove he can be a key player for Gers.

He has proven that \this season with a WhoScored rating of 7.04 and a pass accuracy of 89%.

Davis’ influence is perhaps highlighted by his involvement in our possession game, as well as the fact we barely missed Ryan Jack while he was out injured.

In terms of average passes made per match, only Jack and Conor Goldson have outperformed Davis (WhoScored), who has made 75 per game.

That is a brilliant effort from the Northern Ireland international, and it means he acts as a focal point for his teammates to look to.

That makes him integral to our success when games may be going against us – such as the period when we were trailing against Motherwell a couple of weeks ago.

The recent Celtic clash also evidenced that, as Davis made the most touches of any player on the pitch (82) on his way to earning a WhoScored rating of 7.5.

Little is right in stating we are lucky to have him, and we hope Davis extends his contract beyond the summer.
