'Will look to move him on' – Provan claims Gerrard will be prepping for big Gers exit 'soon'
Rangers will look to sell Alfredo Morelos following his latest display of indiscipline, according to Davie Provan.
The pundit launched a scathing attack against the Colombia international after he stamped on Hibernian’s Ryan Porteous on Wednesday.
Morelos avoided punishment during the match but has been charged by the Scottish FA, and could face a three-match ban.
Provan did not hold back in his criticism of the 24-year-old.
“It was also a kick in the teeth for Steven Gerrard who has stuck his neck out for him continually despite his indiscipline.
“I would imagine that once Rangers get this league title won, and it will happen pretty soon, then Rangers will look to move him on.
“He is a player who does not learn.”
It is disappointing that Morelos has picked up another charge as he has had a relatively trouble-free season so far.
However, to suggest he should be sold as a result is a little baffling.
He is clearly still an integral part of the side. His winner against Hibs highlights that importance, as only his clever movement saw the Hibs backline penetrated on Wednesday.
There has always been speculation about Morelos being sold.
The striker could go in the summer but he will only be sold when Rangers think it is the right time and there is the right bid on the table.
And according to Provan, Morelos’ attitude means he may struggle to attract buyers.
His temperament is a problem but he looked to be making progress in that department, which is why his actions in mid-week are so disappointing.
We are lucky that the squad has been doing so well without him this season and that we are so far ahead.
If it was a close title race then losing him for three games would be a disaster.
As it is, this is all part of the Morelos package. It’s not going to change things dramatically.
