‘You are a disgrace’, ‘Coward’ – Some Rangers fans blast Irvine Welsh after new Twitter jibe

Some Rangers fans have fired back at Irvine Welsh following a tweet that contained a thinly veiled jibe at Gers fans following recent controversy.

Welsh came in for heavy criticism for comments he made about Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos on Hibs TV during Wednesday’s game at Easter Road.

Hibs have since apologised to Rangers but Welsh has seemingly not backed down from his position as in a number of tweets posted on Friday he appeared to defend his actions.

Firstly, Welsh tweeted a link to an article he’d written about being offended and along with it he wrote, “Those prone to taking offence, particularly the hard of thinking who confuse obvious nonsense humour with serious intent, might get something from this.”

This was followed up by Welsh replying to an account which had also used an offensive term to describe Rangers fans, and passed his comments off as a joke, suggesting that he didn’t really mean them.

Whether he meant them or not, Welsh’s comments were completely unacceptable and he should not be allowed back on Hibs TV or any football-related live broadcast ever again.

Rangers

Many Rangers fans took issue with Welsh’s attempt to defend himself as many poked holes in his argument.

Others pointed out that this wasn’t his first offence as he was once in a band called Stairway 13 which is a reference to the Ibrox disaster.

Some fans went as far as to call Welsh a disgrace and a coward which shows just how angry some sections of the Gers fan base are.

Here is how some Rangers fans reacted to Welsh’s tweet.
