‘Rangers intimidate referees’ – Sutton claims refs are ‘scared’ of Morelos in bizarre rant
Chris Sutton has blasted Scottish referees along with Rangers and Alfredo Morelos as he ranted about the Colombian’s latest antics.
Morelos was charged with violent conduct by the SFA on Friday following a ‘stamp’ on Hibernian’s Ryan Porteous in this week’s 1-0 win at Easter Road.
Sutton, speaking to BT Sport, claimed that Scotland has the worst officials in the world and stated that Rangers and Morelos intimidate referees.
He said “The standard of refereeing is appalling. They are possibly the worst group of referees in the world.
“How long is Morelos going to get away with this? I think that Rangers and Morelos intimidate referees, they frighten referees.
“Referees are scared to make a decision on him and pull out the red card. There have been four occasions this season where Morelos could’ve and should’ve been sent off.
“He’s an accident waiting to happen.”
This is pretty strong stuff from Sutton and you can tell that he feels very strongly about Rangers and Morelos.
No change there then.
Sutton failed to actually give any examples of when El Bufalo should’ve been sent off this term and let’s not forget that the Colombian is apparently the only player in Scotland who gets retrospectively charged by the SFA.
As a former Celtic player, Sutton can’t seriously believe that Rangers intimidate referees when the Hoops gets their fair rub of the green when it comes to major decisions.
These quotes are nothing short of embarrassing and to claim that Morelos is ‘getting away’ with it despite being cited by the SFA on numerous occasions this season is baffling.
While we agree that the refereeing in Scotland isn’t exactly world-class, Rangers don’t benefit from poor decisions more than any club.
Perhaps some frustration is creeping in for Sutton as we look set for 55.
In other Rangers news, Tam McManus wasn’t the only one who saw this latest charge coming.
