Rangers in advanced talks to sign another new player – report
Rangers are at an advantage stage in talks to sign Bournemouth midfielder Nnamdi Ofoborh on a pre-contract deal, according to The Times.
The runaway Premiership leaders have already confirmed pre-contract agreements are in place for Scott Wright and Jack Simpson to arrive at Ibrox at the end of the season but it is understood the Gers are also closing in on a deal for Ofoborh.
The 21-year-old’s contract at Bournemouth is up at the end of the season and can be approached by clubs outside of England.
Planning for the future
Rangers have been operating at a loss for some time now and it has been suggested that the club will need to start selling players in order to balance the books at Ibrox.
Steven Gerrard has done amazing work in signing young players and increasing their value at Ibrox and it seems that he and Ross Wilson might be taking that approach by agreeing pre-contract deals with players like Wright, Simpson and Ofoborh, who are all aged 24 and under.
Ofoborh, at 21, is the youngest of the bunch.
The central midfielder, who can also play in the defence, has played just five times for the Bournemouth first-team in his career but had a stand-out 2019/20 campaign when he helped Wycombe win promotion to the Championship by playing 25 times for them in all competitions.
The Nigeria Under-20 international even scored in the League One play-offs as Wycombe beat Fleetwood in the semi-finals to set-up a Wembley final against Oxford United.
Ofoborh is young and doesn’t really represent any risk in terms of signing him so why not get the deal done now?
In a few years’ time, he could be worth a fair bit of cash to help Rangers continue their resurgence to the top of Scottish football.
In other Rangers news, Brentford are set to sign this young Gers star.
