Medical today: Senior player on verge of Rangers loan exit – Sky Sports journalist
Rangers winger Jordan Jones is on the verge of joining Sunderland on loan for the rest of the season, according to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie.
Writing via his personal Twitter account today (Friday), Downie reported that Jones, 26, is travelling south of the border to undergo a medical with the English League One club.
Daily Mail journalist Stephen McGowan had earlier reported that Jones could sign for Sunderland in time to play against Gillingham on Saturday.
Good riddance
On the pitch, Jones wasn’t good enough and off the pitch, he proved himself to be a massive liability when he broke COVID protocol to go to a house party last year.
Jones is lucky that he didn’t cause Rangers to receive any sanctions for his irresponsible actions. If that did happen, we have no doubt that he would have been sacked by the club.
He’s also lucky to find a club that’s willing to take him on and at Sunderland, he doesn’t have to move that far away and is joining a club with decent prospects.
It remains to be seen if there’s going to be any option for the English club to sign Jones permanently however, at the moment, it doesn’t seem that’s the case.
It looks as though it’s a straight loan for the 26-year-old, who has been a huge flop at Ibrox with just 19 first-team appearances since his arrival from Kilmarnock in 2019.
We’re glad to see the back of him, even though it’s only temporarily.
However, you would hope that if he plays a lot in Sunderland, someone will come along that’s willing to take the winger permanently.
In other Rangers news, there’s been a major update on Billy Gilmour’s future amid speculation linking him with a shock return to Ibrox.
