John Hartson makes big Rangers claim on talkSPORT after Lawwell announcement

Big Hoops fan John Hartson has admitted that Rangers have “caught” Celtic this season and that it has led directly to Peter Lawwell announcing his retirement.

Celtic announced today that Lawwell will retire in the summer after 17 years in charge.

And Harston believes that the absolute dominance shown by Rangers this season will now lead to a complete overhaul “from top to bottom” at Celtic in the summer.

Hartson said he has supported Lennon more than any other former player but now thinks he has to go.

Talking on the Jim White Show (talkSPORT, Friday, 11.45am) Hartson said, “With the team this season, Rangers have caught up and Rangers are going to win the league, many supporters have seen Lawwell as the man to blame.

“There’s a lot of bad blood at the club with Celtic being 23 points behind Rangers. I think Peter might well have just had enough.

“I’ve been Neil Lennon’s biggest supporter, I’ve got behind him more than any other ex-player, I’ve been the one to the detriment of getting a lot of criticism.

“I think there needs to be a complete change from top to bottom. Rangers haven’t just won the league by five or six points.”

Anyone got a pack of cards?

It’s come to something when someone like Hartson admits that Rangers have not only won the league but caught Celtic.

In reality, Rangers have passed Celtic and they’re now looking like a very distant shadow in our rear window.

Getting a new manager isn’t easy but a complete rebuild of a club is another thing entirely.

A lot of managers who might have considered the Celtic job will be thinking again now – it’s going to be a huge task to get back to the top and that’s the only thing that will be an indicator of success.

It’s time to soak it all in.

It’s been one hell of a long journey back to the top of the game but the good news is that we haven’t just snuck it in a tight race, we’ve smashed it out of the park.

We know it, John Hartson knows it and Peter Lawwell knows it.

Neil Lennon might be the only one who doesn’t.
