Brentford set to sign exciting young Rangers forward permanently – reliable journalist
Brentford are set to sign young Rangers forward Nathan Young-Coombes on a permanent deal, according to freelance journalist Robin Bairner.
Writing on the Football Transfers website, Bairner reported that Young-Coombes, 18, is in the final six months of his deals at Ibrox and is allowed to talk to other clubs over pre-contract.
It is understood West Ham looked at Young-Coombes in the summer but Brentford have now won the race for the “exciting, young forward”.
Potential mistake?
Brentford are one of the best teams at what they do south of the border in terms of bringing in young players from other clubs and then turning a profit on them.
The English Championship club doesn’t have their own academy so rely on their extensive recruitment network to add to their squad.
In the last few years, Brentford have taken players like Ollie Watkins, Said Benrahma, Neal Maupay, Andre Gray and Scott Hogan from other clubs and made huge profits on them.
Most of their signings are made from lower down the leagues in England but clearly, they are not afraid to pick at players from Scotland’s leading club either.
Young-Coombes joined Rangers from Chelsea in February 2019 but has not made a single senior appearance for the Light Blues.
He’s been a regular for the youth teams but there has never been any real suggestion he might break into Steven Gerrard’s senior side.
However, Brentford have clearly seen something in the former Chelsea youngster and want to sign him so time will tell whether Rangers should have invested more time in the 18-year-old forward.
In other Rangers news, another player is on the verge of leaving Ibrox with a medical set to take place soon.
