Rangers fans complain to Ofcom as offensive slur aimed at Morelos on Hibs TV – report
Rangers fans have complained to Ofcom about an offensive term reportedly being aimed at Alfredo Morelos on Hibs TV on Wednesday night.
According to the Scottish Sun, Trainspotting author and celebrity Hibernian fan Irvine Welsh allegedly referred to 24-year-old Morelos as a “sticky bun”, which is said to be rhyming slang for an offensive term.
Morelos was fortunate to not get sent off at Easter Road on Wednesday when he appeared to stamp on Hibs defender Ryan Porteous before the Colombia international went on to score the match-winning goal in a 1-0 victory for Steven Gerrard’s men.
The Scottish Sun reports that Welsh aimed the slur at Morelos when discussing the potential sending off incident.
Disgusting.
According to the Scottish Sun, Rangers, Hibs and Welsh have been contacted for comment so it will be interesting to see if anything comes back.
However, there’s no way we can stand for this if it’s true.
Hibs TV is representative of the Edinburgh club and if they are going to use their video platform to get people on spouting awful terms about Rangers players then there’s a massive issue at Easter Road that needs to be looked into.
It’s not funny, it’s dangerous.
This is the kind of abuse that has gone on for decades upon decades and we – among a lot of other Scottish football fans – are sick to the back teeth of it.
We try to avoid talking about politics or religion on here because to be quite honest, it doesn’t affect the way we support our team, nor does it affect how we view our rivals.
But hearing it aimed at one of our players, via a club’s in-house media channel, is abhorrent.
Morelos should have been sent off for his stamp on Porteous but to call him what Welsh allegedly did is shameful.
