Exclusive: Alex McLeish reveals what he thinks of Morelos controversy from Gers clash v Hibs

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has delivered his verdict on the latest controversy involving Alfredo Morelos.

He said the incident from the win against Hibs didn’t ‘look great’ and that the striker needs to keep his head and look to get one over on players he’s clashing with in other ways.

Morelos was accused of deliberately stamping on Hibs defender Ryan Porteous, although no action was taken by the referee.

Rangers are waiting to see if the incident is going to go any further. Morelos went on to score the winning goal in the game as Gers maintained their 23-point lead at the top of the Premiership.

Talking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “You never like to see things like that.

“The referee said it was an accident but it looked like it was accidentally-on-purpose to me.

“He still has to keep that in check and Stevie has to keep reminding him, keep having a word in his ear.

“He’s definitely curtailed it but sometimes there’s that wee kind of fog. It doesn’t look great in that TV moment but obviously the good side is that he scored the winning goal.

“That doesn’t condone the afters, though, when you’ve just been involved in a tackle.

“Morelos has to keep his head and look to embarrass the player in another way when he thinks he’s been wronged.’

Rangers

Morelos hasn’t been firing to his normal standards this season but has just started showing signs of getting back to top form.

The goal last night was his fourth in six games and with Antwerp coming up, he could be coming good just at the right time.

A ban would be a big blow for him and for Rangers.
