Steven Gerrard delivers intriguing Rangers transfer update
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard remained coy on the transfer front while providing updates on the situations of Scott Wright and Glenn Middleton.
Wright has agreed a pre-contract deal with the Gers and Gerrard admitted that he would be keen for the winger to arrive in January – if a deal can be done.
The manager hinted at the possibility of more signings, too, but refused to give anything away on that front.
Bournemouth pair Jack Simpson and Nnamdi Ofoborh have been heavily linked with a move to Ibrox but Gerrard refused to name names.
In an interview with Sky Sports, he said, “We’re pleased and delighted to get Scott signed up and we’re looking forward to welcoming him with open arms in the summer.
“It would be a bonus if we could get it done now.
“There’s no other news in terms of ins and outs right now.
“We’re hoping to add some more news in the coming days with certain situations that we’ve been looking into, but at the moment right now I can’t give you any more than that.”
Positive signs
There are just a few days remaining in the transfer window so it seems unlikely that there will be any immediate addition to the squad, unless we can persuade the Dons to let Wright leave.
We would like to see Wright arrive now as Gerrard is clearly a big fan of the winger, and is likely keen to take him under his wing.
Stevie G praised the role of Derek McInnes and Aberdeen in Wright’s development, but joining Rangers will be a whole new experience.
The same can be said of the Bournemouth pair above, and if they joined now they could each enjoy an adjustment period prior to the summer.
That is what we did with the signing of Glen Kamara in 2019, and he has been a huge success at Ibrox.
Kamara signed for £50,000 and has earned himself a regular place in the team this term.
Wright should take note, as should Simpson and Ofoborh if they sign, and look to emulate the progress of the 25-year-old midfielder.
