Reliable journo shares big Scott Wright update ahead of Aberdeen v St Johnstone tonight

Scott Wright is set to feature for Aberdeen when they play St Johnstone tonight (Wednesday) despite agreeing a pre-contract deal at Rangers, according to Sean Wallace.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday, the Aberdeen Evening Express journalist reported that Derek McInnes will name Wright, 23, in his starting line-up at McDiarmid Park for the Premiership showdown in Perth.

Wallace’s opinion is that Wright will continue to give 100 per cent for Aberdeen until he officially becomes a Rangers player

As long as he plays, we’re happy

One of the fears we have about signing Wright on a pre-contract with the view to him arriving in the summer is that he doesn’t play for Aberdeen between now and then.

We could understand to an extent why McInnes would do that because he doesn’t want to be seen developing a player who’s leaving for Rangers in the summer.

However, Wright is still one of their better players at Pittodrie and leaving him out could hurt the Dons’ chances in the Premiership.

Rangers

Evening Express journalist Wallace has made a good point about Wright.

He’s probably seen a lot more of the attacking midfielder than any of us have and he is sure that he’ll continue playing fully committed for the Dons for the rest of the season if a January deal isn’t agreed.

We do worry that if fans are allowed back in at Pittodrie the reception that Wright might get because some of the abuse aimed at him since the Rangers deal was announced has been horrible.

Wallace, in a column on the Evening Express website, has condemned those supporters who’ve abused Wright on social media or by hanging up an offensive banner aimed at the 23-year-old.

He comes across as someone who’s opinion and judgement we can trust but let’s see how he plays against St Johnstone on Wednesday.

You’d imagine that every time he fails to make a pass or fails to get a shot on target he’ll get crucified online by Dons fans a lot easier than he would have done before the pre-contract was announced.

In other Rangers news, this Gers-linked ace has been left out of a matchday squad ahead of potentially agreeing to join the Premiership leaders.
