Done deal: Rangers agree 20y/o permanent exit, subject to international clearance
Rangers have agreed to sell young midfielder Cammy Palmer to Northern Irish club Linfield, the Gers Academy have announced.
Rangers’ Youth Academy tweeted on Wednesday that Palmer, 20, has joined Linfield on a permanent basis but the move is still subject to international clearance.
Palmer failed to make a single senior appearance for the Gers but has had loan spells away from Ibrox at Partick Thistle, Orange County and, most recently, Clyde, where he spend the first half of this season.
Good luck, Cammy
Palmer’s move to Linfield makes sense.
The Canadian-born midfielder is playing regularly for Northern Ireland’s Under-21s side so it seems as though he could make a career for himself over in Belfast.
Linfield are leading the NIFL Premiership at the moment with a four-point lead over second-placed Crusaders so it will be great for Palmer to get involved over there and maybe win himself some silverware.
Palmer had struggled for game-time at Clyde in the first half of this season with the young midfielder playing just three times in League One and assisting one goal in the process.
He unfortunately picked up an injury eight minutes into his debut against Peterhead in October and then missed four League One fixtures.
Hopefully he can stay fit at Linfield and continue his development there but this seems like a move that’s a good one for all parties.
It was always unlikely for Palmer to break through at Rangers and get into Steven Gerrard’s first-team while he might have a role to play at Linfield.
In other Rangers news, Derek McInnes has failed Scott Wright with his gutless response to abuse sent towards the incoming Gers signing.
