‘Will be in the squad’ – Steven Gerrard delivers Rangers fitness boost ahead of Hibs clash
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has provided an update on the fitness of Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe and Scott Arfield ahead of the clash against Hibernian.
There was good news for Gers on Saturday as Jack made a goalscoring return to the side following two months on the sidelines.
Gerrard said the midfielder came through unscathed, while stating that Roofe will join him in the squad.
Roofe missed out against Ross County as he featured in just one full training session last week.
Scott Arfield has a little longer to wait, as Gerrard suggested the midfielder could be back in a “couple of weeks”.
Much-needed boost
Rangers have been flying high but as fixtures begin to pile up it is vital to have our best options available for contention.
The depth of the squad means Jack, Arfield and Roofe haven’t been missed too much, but their comebacks will hugely strengthen the team in an important period.
Roofe could replace Ianis Hagi or Ryan Kent if they are showing signs of fatigue, after playing on Saturday.
News of Arfield’s anticipated return is also a big plus as it will come during a hectic period.
At the beginning of February, the Gers will start a run of four games in just 15 days, which includes a first-leg Europa League game against Antwerp.
That is why we are most excited about Arfield’s return.
He has proven his pedigree in that competition so far, scoring two goals in the group stage as well as one in a qualifier against Galatasaray.
if the Canadian makes good on his predicted schedule he should get some minutes under his belt ahead of the trip to Belgium.
Jack’s return at the weekend proved injured players can have an immediate impact and we believe Roofe and Arfield are capable of replicating Jack’s display.
In other Rangers news, the club want to re-sign an ex-Ibrox midfielder, new twist could be major boost.
