‘Verge of glory’ – Exclusive: Alex McLeish fires Rangers transfer warning over key players
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has claimed it would take “ridiculous money” for Rangers to sell any of their key players in the final week of the January window.
It was revealed in the latest AGM that the Bears may need to sell one or two players each year, but there have no major links this month.
McLeish has claimed that with 55 so close, Steven Gerrard won’t want to lose any of his significant players moving forward at Ibrox.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “It would need to be ridiculous money that if anyone was to make an approach for any one of Rangers players.
“There’s no way Steven Gerrard is going to take any bids or people taking the mickey if they think they may get a bargain or two.
“Gerrard knows exactly how it feels at a big club, he is no stranger to knowing how it takes the best team to continue through the entire season to lift those trophies – you don’t want to disrupt a team when you’re on the verge of glory.”
It has been quiet on the outgoing transfers this month.
Rangers are one of the best teams in Europe statistically this season, so there will be big teams making plans to try and steal some of the big names at Ibrox.
The Athletic released a recent report on the valuation of the squad, with six names being rated at over £80million collectively.
Gerrard has built the near-perfect squad this season, and should they stick together, it could lead up to season upon season of dominance.
