Report: Rangers dealt blow over bringing Scott Wright to Ibrox in January
Aberdeen want a “good offer” from Rangers for Scott Wright if they are to let him leave in January, report the Daily Record.
The Gers confirmed on Monday that they have reached an agreement to sign Wright on a pre-contract deal, with the move set to take place in the summer.
Steven Gerrard is believed to be keen on bringing the winger to Ibrox in January.
Wright, however, is happy to stay at Pittodrie for now and Derek McInnes feels the same way, while the Dons have also ruled out any potential swap deals.
Better off staying put
Stevie G’s desire to take Wright to Ibrox is understandable, as it would give the youngster more time to settle into the squad ahead of next season.
Wright would be able to get used to training and the standards set by the more senior Rangers players.
He could also provide a boost on the field, adding competition for the likes of Ryan Kent and Ianis Hagi.
It would obviously be good for us to get him through the door as soon as possible but there are positives to him staying put.
He will get more game time at Aberdeen, playing under a manager who values him highly.
McInnes has previously called Wright a “terrific” player, and we think more time under the Dons boss could aid his development further.
The winger could use the little time he has remaining at Aberdeen as an audition period and demonstrate why he deserves to jump ahead of Hagi or Kent in the pecking order.
