‘Fits the Rangers model’ – Kenny Miller believes 23y/o star will ‘thrive’ at Ibrox
Rangers confirmed the pre-contract signing of Aberdeen’s Scott Wright on Monday, and Kenny Miller is impressed with the club’s business.
The former Gers striker played with Wright at Dundee in 2018/19, and from his words it seems the winger made a notable impression on the 41-year-old.
Miller offered his opinion on the 23-year-old’s positive traits and assessed how he will fair at Ibrox.
In an interview with the Scottish Sun, he said, “Scotty is the type of player who I think will thrive at Rangers.
“He’s got a great way about him. He’s a clever boy with a good head on his shoulders.
“Scotty fits the Rangers model in terms of his age and profile. He can play in different roles.
“He’ll kick on with better players around him. I definitely think he’s got the capability to do well.”
Future looking bright
Miller’s description of Wright is very encouraging and what we want to hear about all new signings, particularly young players.
It shows Steven Gerrard is not only looking to add quality to the squad, but good characters also.
Such traits are necessary if all of our additions are going to fight for a place in the starting line-up and prove they have what it takes to succeed at Ibrox.
In his interview Miller also mentioned Jordan Jones by way of comparison, and Wright must avoid the winger’s trajectory.
That is partly due to the form of Ryan Kent, Kemar Roofe and Ianis Hagi, but if Wright emulates that trio and learns from them he could begin challenging for a regular starting spot.
Arriving on a free means Wright is a low-risk arrival, but it would be brilliant to see him become a great bargain deal this month. Time is running out for that to happen, though.
His first aim should be to increase his goal and assist output, having produced four-goal contributions in 15 league games this season.
To do so requires game time, but it appears he will have a chance to do that as he looks set to remain at Pittodrie for the remainder of the season.
