Confirmed: Gerrard in talks to sign two more players at Rangers
Rangers have made contact with Bournemouth duo Nnamdi Ofoborh and Jack Simpson about potential transfers to Ibrox, Cherries boss Jason Tindall has confirmed.
Ofoborh, 21, and Simpson, 24, are out of contract in the summer. The Gers, as a foreign club, are free to speak to the duo regarding any pre-contract agreements.
As quoted by the Daily Echo, Tindall confirmed that he’s spoken directly with Steven Gerrard. He said that ‘nothing has been finalised yet’ between the two clubs or players with regards to any transfers.
“Obviously both players are out of contract at the end of the season. Stevie Gerrard did make contact with me a few days ago,” said Tindall.
“They are free to talk to teams due to their contract situation and Rangers are in a position to be able to do that now.
“Nothing has been finalised as yet in terms of ‘are they signed, or ‘are they going to be signing there?’
“But they are in a position to talk to them – to see what the opportunities might be for them in the future at Rangers Football Club.”
No complacency from the boss
This story will please many Rangers fans as it shows Gerrard still has the hunger and desire to push on for next season.
Centre-back Simpson is an England u21 international who came through the youth ranks at Bournemouth. He’s featured for the Cherries nine times this season.
Ofoborh is a centre-midfielder who spent last season on loan to Wycombe Wanderers, scoring once in 21 appearances to help them gain promotion for the Championship.
Both could offer good competition to Gerrard’s current options in defence and midfield.
This season has truly been a revelation. Had you said Rangers would be 23 points clear of Celtic by January you’d have got a few strange looks.
Rangers will be able to offer Champions League football next season to potential transfer targets, should they win their 55th league title.
It’ll be the first time since 2010/11 that the Gers will compete in Europe’s elite competition. Gerrard is right to be looking to strengthen his squad.
In other Rangers news, the Gers are dealt a blow by bringing Scott Wright to Ibrox in January.
